A series of goodbyes

This blog is going to be a diary of sorts for when I am over in Japan. For my own posterity, but also to keep friends and family in touch with whatever I am going to be doing whilst over in the land of the rising sun. I am flying to Tokyo in about 4 days time on Saturday August 4th and I am strangely calm about it all! Not particularly nervous - just excited and open minded. Perhaps because I have had so long to prepare for this move, I feel slightly in control of my preparation and attitude towards leaving my home in the UK for a place so foreign and far-away. People around me are saying goodbye in such sincere and powerful ways. It is touching, but I can’t help but think to myself: ‘Hang on, I’m only going for a few weeks! I’ll be back!’ about 52 weeks to be a bit more precise. Somebody observed that I appear to be folding up my life here and throwing it away ready to start a new one. Whilst slightly true, I am folding up my life here - trying to see as much of the friends and family who mean so much to me - but I am keeping it kept in a safe place so that I can open it up again when I return. Don’t worry! The internet is such a great way of keeping in touch - so I’ll say goodbye to you all here, and I promise that I will update this site with tons of interesting and fascinating things I shall do and see whilst in Japan! Bon voyage!
